"Wish We Were Here" - is the new project from the Working Class Collective in 2022 a small group of working class people who write, paint, and create art came together to ensure that working class people's voices would be heard during the first weeks of the Covid Lockdowns - we created a beautiful book funded by hundreds of people donating to our Kickstarter. Over many years working class people's lives, stories and experiences have become absent from the mainstream, and working class people are disappearing from the creative industries. The Working Class Collective have continued our commitment in challenging the narratives and stories ABOUT us - and we are taking up space making sure we can tell our own stories.
We are off again with our recent and ongoing project - Working Class Fantastic Spaces - a year ago we put a call out for your Working Class Fantastic Spaces we have had many stories, photos and we have been out and talked to people about their working class fantastic spaces - we have had memories of fishing in a local river, pubs with fairy lights, mining communities where generations of families live, working men's clubs, and being a teenager on the park - instead of putting these stories together in a book we are going to create a string of postcards - Wish We Were Here - 2 sets of postcards - North and South - 12 individual beautiful and original art work and portrait photography created by working class artists inspired by the stories people have sent us - two of our writers will then narrate those stories on the backs of the postcards.
